Warm-Up Drill -Pepper

28 October 2009 233 views No Comment

There’s a whole lot more out there than just normal pepper! A great warm up is to go through a rotation of the different peppers. Start a new pepper every minute. Mix it up by having players switch partners every minutes. Have a system of rotating partners in place so you don’t waste time between.

  • Basic Pepper -

Pass, Set, Hit back and forth with partners.

  • Hands Pepper –Pass, Set, Hit back and forth with partners. When hitting, hit a high, hard roll shot at partner’s forehead. Use hands to dig.

Works on arm swing and hands digging.

  • Mix Pepper –Combination of Basic and Hands pepper. When hitting ball, hit either a hard, low shot or a high, hard shot. Defensive player be in a neutral position (neutral position described in Defensive Section). Be ready to dig with hands or platform.

Works on reaction time as well as deciding between using hands or platform.

  • Olympic 1 –Set to yourself.  With a partner.  Partner 1 toss high ball to Partner 2.  Partner 2 sets to herself then hits to Partner 1.  Partner 1 dig high ball back to Partner 2.  Partner 2 sets to herself and then hits to Partner 2.  Repeat 5 times then switch.  Partner 1 sets herself and while partner 2 digs.  When switching, keep ball going with passes or sets.  Don’t stop in the middle of the drill.

  • Olympic 2 – Dig to yourself: Partner 1 initiates ball with a hit. Partner 2 digs to herself then sets to Partner 1. Partner 1 hits at Partner 2. Partner 2 digs to herself and sets to Partner 1.  Repeat 5 times then switch.

  • Olympic 2 Modified – Pass, Set, Set, Hit. Partner 1 initiates ball with a hit. Partner 2 digs to herself then sets to Partner 1. Partner 1 sets back to Partner 2. Partner 2 hits at Partner 1.  Partner 1 digs to herself and sets Partner 2. Partner 2 sets back to Partner 1. Partner 1 hits.  Keep drill going.

  • Hands Olympic 1, Hands Olympic 2, or Hands Olympic 2 Modified
